Arc of triumph – Champs Elysées
A ten-minute walk or direct bus line 31
The Arc of Triumph was erected between 1806 and 1836 on Napoleon’s orders to stand 50 meters high in the middle of Etoile square. This tall monument is also 45 meters wide by 22 meters thick.
The Etoile square is so called because of its circular shape that paves the way for twelve large avenues inspired and designed by Baron Haussmann in the 19th century, during his time as a Prefect of the Seine department. The avenues beam around the central point like a star or a sun and bear glorious names such Kléber Avenue, Grande-Armée Avenue, Wagram Avenue and of course Champs-Elysées. The hotel is within short access along Wagram Avenue.
The Monceau Park
A five-minute walk or direct bus line 84
This 8.2 ha park with a radius of one km offers a perfect spot for a walk or a jog. The tour is precisely 1,107 meters long. It is unusual of other French parks as it has an English style due to its layout with curved alleys and randomly placed statues of famous artists such as the writer Guy de Maupassant or the musician Frederic Chopin. The park is surrounded by Courcelles Boulevard in the North and large avenues designed by the Pereire brothers who were successful financiers contemporary of their rivals Rothschild. As a matter of fact several luxurious mansions border the park some overlooking the park greenery.
